As a destination marketing organization and business association representing approximately 1,000 members in tourism and related industries/activities, Tourism Vancouver is committed to providing our partners with reliable, accurate and timely information related to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). We are obtaining the latest details from provincial, Canadian and global health authorities, and staying in close contact with related tourism organizations – both at home and abroad. We continue to participate in bi-weekly updates with Destination Canada and a range of additional travel-related organizations.

  • Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the extension of the Canada Emergency Commercial Rent Assistance program by one month which was initially to end in June.

  • The Canadian government has extended the current ban on international travellers, excluding U.S. travellers, until July 31.

BRITISH COLUMBIA – COVID-19 UPDATE AND GOVERNMENT RESPONSE

  • The Province of British Columbia has extended temporary layoff periods to a maximum of 24 weeks, expiring August 30, 2020, to prevent employers from needing to pay out severance to employees they intend to rehire.

CALL FOR PARTICIPATION FROM OPEN AND OPENING RESTAURANTS, PUBS, LOUNGES AND HOTELS – VANCOUVER WHITECAPS

The Vancouver Whitecaps are thrilled to announce that they will be playing three live soccer games coming up in July. The team will be heading down to Florida to play round robin matches against FC Dallas (July 9 at 7:30 p.m. PT), San Jose Earthquakes (July 15 at 7:30 p.m. PT) and the Seattle Sounders (July 20 at 7:30 p.m. PT) as part of the MLS is Back tournament in Orlando, Florida.

These games will be broadcast and streamed on TSN and if your establishment can commit to showing the matches live with or without sound, the Whitecaps, in collaboration with Phillips Brewing Co, will promote you to their audience and fans, through their website and social media channels.

Tourism Vancouver will also be promoting these matches and any viewing parties through its channels and the #VancouverComeBack campaign. If you plan to take advantage of this demand-generating event which will help you max out your allowable seats on game nights, please fill out and submit this sign up form on or before Friday, July 3rd when the list of viewing party venues will be finalized for promotion.
