TOURISM VANCOUVER UPDATES

A MESSAGE TO MEMBERS FROM CEO, ROYCE CHWIN

Dear Members,

While we are still dealing with international border restrictions, limited group sizes and physical distancing measures, it has been welcome news to hear that some tourism operators have seen parts of their business come back. At the same time, we know there are big challenges ahead to get us through the coming fall and winter. We are still in the midst of weathering the most difficult time in the history of our industry together.

Like many in our sector, we know you and your businesses are struggling to keep your staff employed. The health of our organization reflects the well-being of our membership and this brings me to where we have landed today. To ensure our long-term viability so we can deliver on a renewed vison and mission, the difficult decision was made, in consultation with and support from the Board, to reduce our workforce permanently by releasing our furloughed staff. This decision was not taken lightly and not without exploring many other options.

I would like to take a moment to acknowledge and sincerely thank all affected colleagues for their steadfast dedication and service to Tourism Vancouver, members and the community in which we serve. Our colleagues have been a key part of our successes year over year.

It is clear that our tourism community needs financial support so we can survive and rebuild together. We will continue to advocate on your behalf through our work with the Metro Vancouver Tourism and Hospitality Industry Task Force. If you have any questions, the department leads below would be happy to support you:
