Water & Sewer Rates to Increase in Vancouver
Forecasted annual sewer and water utility rate increases are also now posted (December 1, 2021 Council Reports): By 2026, water rates are forecast to increase by 37%, and sewer rates are forecast to increase by 97% over today’s rates.
Fortunately for larger buildings that have cooling towers there are opportunities to apply for sewer credits for water that is evaporated in cooling towers and does not end up in the sewer. By Design, a cooling tower evaporates water, and you may be eligible for reduced sewer utility charges. Details on sewer credits (including a contact) can be found on the City of Vancouver Operating Permits webpage under “Cooling towers”

Visitor Servicing Update
Over the last year our Visitor Centre located on the Plaza Level at 200 Burrard Street has been closed to walk-in visitors – one of many safety precautions implemented in response to COVID-19. Rather than just serve the public at our street-front location, throughout the pandemic Destination Vancouver has supported travellers to the city in a number of different ways including virtual visitor services, through online Live Chat, email, and phone calls.
Destination Vancouver has been advised that the Visitor Centre space which we have been leasing, has been committed to a new tenant. As such, we have vacated the space and have officially closed our physical Visitor Centre. We will not be seeking to reopen a new physical location at this point in time and are considering next steps.
To ensure seamless support to travellers, the Destination Vancouver team will continue to offer our virtual visitor servicing, which is currently available Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. Our team intends to continue working with our wonderful Visitor Servicing Volunteers and Ambassadors. The Destination Vancouver team will be reaching out to members and industry partners for insights and suggestions. More details regarding the process of gathering stakeholder input will be available in the new year.
In the interim, we encourage you to send us any questions you may have to Lucas Pavan, Manager, Membership.
